She ws born in Stuart, Oklahoma, to Tom and Elizabeth (Hale) Akin. She attended and graduated from McAlester High School. She married Charley "Chuck" Sanders of Holdenville on Dec. 20, 1947, in McAlester. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997. They were longtime members of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing and tending to her flower beds. She passed away at the age of 81 at the McAlester hospital. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Debbie Sanders, of Guthrie, and Mark and Cathey Sanders, of McAlester; four grandsons and spouses, Chris and Carla Cunningham, Jason and Rebecca Sanders, Chad Sanders, and Jonathon Robinson. Also, a granddaughter and spouse, Renea and Steven Brown, and six great-grandchildren, Avery Cunningham, Collin Sanders, Cole Cunningham, Blaine Brown, Austin Rumsey and C'ydnee Brown. Pallbearers will be her nephews and grandsons. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Elizabeth Hale Akin; two brothers, Dan Akin and Gordon Akin, and two sisters, Etta Taylor and Zetta Crosthwait.
