Charles R. "Chuck" Berg, 78, of Eau Claire died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, surrounded by his family at Sacred Heart Hospital.

He was born to John M. and Veronica (Kaufman) Berg on Sept. 14, 1929, in Eau Claire. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1947. Chuck began working for American National Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank) after high school. He began his career as a messenger, and later progressed to the savings department in 1948. In the late 1960s, he started in the trust department and was promoted to assistant vice president and trust officer. He retired as a financial planning officer on March 31, 1985, with 37 years of service.

His interests in life included his flying lessons, beekeeping at the lake, crossword puzzles which he did in ink and playing cribbage and 500. Above all, his family was his number one priority. Chuck was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and on numerous committees. He was given the Non Sibi Award from Regis High School in 1994.

Chuck was a loyal friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his brother, Leonard (Margaret) of Eau Claire; two sisters, Valeria Tushner and Audrey (John) Flynn, both of Eau Claire; 10 nephews, David and Daniel Berg, Michael, Jeff, John, Peter and Paul Tushner and by Steven, Michael and Paul Flynn; three nieces, Jackie Halski, Joan Pfeiffer and Janice Flynn; 14 great-nephews and nieces; and two aunts, Loraine Berg and Cleo Berg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janice; a brother-in-law, James Tushner.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father William A. Dhein and Monsignor Edmund Klimek celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Eau Claire.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to Mass on Friday at church. There will be a public prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Special thanks to the staff at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center and Intensive Care Unit for their care and support and also to the pastoral care department for their words of comfort and support.

Memorials are preferred, and will be designated in Chuck's name to charities chosen by his family.
