Adam Shane Rakes, age 29, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011. He was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School, Class of 2000; was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thomas Rakes, and his great-grandfather, Slemp Yates.
He is survived by his wife, April H. Rakes, of the home; his mother, Valerie Yates, of Crockett, Va.; brothers, Travis Rakes and Laura and their daughter, Brionna, of Rural Retreat, Bobby Rakes, of Max Meadows, Va., Chris Rakes, of Crockett, and Matthew McBride of Speedwell, Va.; sister, Lori McBride of Abingdon, Va.; grandparents, Harry Joe and Alana Yates, of Rural Retreat, and Len and Dottie DeShano of Moneta, Va.; great-grandmother, Margaret Yates, of Rural Retreat, and his dog, "Buddy." Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Preacher Gregory Dill officiating. A private committal service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at the West End Cemetery.
