Was a a sergeant in the Confederate Army where his father was killed. From the records on file in the Adjutant General's Office,War Department, Washington, D.C. Louis J. Burt age 20, enlisted in Old Company A, 10th Regiment Mississippi Infantry(also known as Capt. Robert A. Smith's Company--The Mississippi Rifles), on Feb 6 1861,at Jackson, Miss. he was promoted to sergeant during that year. Louis reenlisted on April 21,1862,in the First Regiment Mississippi Light Artillary,at Jackson,Miss. The Union prisoner of war Records show that he was captured July 4,1863 at Vicksburg Miss. Louis was paroled at Vicksburg July 7.1863. In Sept. of 1864 Louis was transferred to Bradford's Corps of Scouts and Guards,as a 2nd Sergeant. The Union prisoner of War Records show that on May 4,1865,Company B,Corps of Scouts and Guards,Confederate States Army,commanded by Major J.D. Bradford,surrendered at Citronelle, Ala.,by Major General E.R.S.Candy. The company was paroled at Jackson, Miss. on May 13,1865. He was also in the Battle of Bakers Creek,the Battle of Big Black Bridge,the Siege of Vicksburg,a Battle of Barretts Farm. He was wounded in the foot on July 8,1864. He married Sarah Mississippi Bush in 1866 in Selma,Ala. They lived in Ala. and Kentucky before moving with his wife and children to Seligman Arizona where he lived for many years. Husband of Sarah M Bush and father to Frank,Charles,Julia,Jennie,Earl and Daisy.His son Franks ashes are buried in the same plot.
