Mrs. Ota Virginia Puckett Sumner, 82, of 859 Doe Run Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Sumner was born November 30, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, daughter of the late Arthur Joseph and Etta Ada Hawks Puckett. She is survived by her husband, Eddie Lee Sumner of the home; a daughter, Delphia Bowman of Mount Airy; four stepdaughters and their spouses, Ruth Marshall of Mount Airy, Helen and Jerry Gwyn of Mooresville, Judy and Ray Kendrick of Ashburn, GA, and Ellen and Larry McCard of Ashburn, GA; two grandchildren, Sammy Bowman and Sabrina Bowman Lovill, both of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Dustin Ray Lovill and Kirsten Bowman; two sisters, Libby Puckett of Mount Airy and Frances Eva Mosley of Mount Airy; and a brother, Clevers Puckett of Hillsville, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sumner was preceded in death by her first husband, Granville Marshall; and two sisters, Lossie Viola Puckett and Hattie Puckett. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Rickey Martin, the Rev. Robbie Sizemore, and the Rev. Terry W. Vaughan, and burial will follow in the Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
