John Walter Hoddy Obituary - Ponca City Newspaper, Ponca City, OK - Feb 8, 1985

John Walter Hoddy, 55, died Wednesday afternoon at his home on Route 3.
The son of Fred and Helen Hoddy, he was born Sept. 22, 1929 at Ponca City, attended St. Mary's Catholic School, and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 17, 1955 he and Lucretia Schmidt were married. She preceded him in death in September 1971.
He and Dorothy Mae Brennan were married Aug. 3, 1973 in Wynona and had made their home in Ponca City since that time. Hoddy went to work for the Ponca City Fire Department in 1954, and was assistant fire chief at the time of his retirement in 1983. He was engaged in farming at the time of his death, and was an avid hunter and outdoors man.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Huff-Minor Post No. 14, Elks Lodge No. 2002, Ponca City Lodge No. 1031, Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, of the home: his parents, Fred and Helen Hoddy, 303 South Tenth: a son, Tom Hoddy of 312 West Fresno: a daughter, Kristi Andrews, Route 2, Red Rock: two brothers, Joe Hoddy of 513 South Tenth and Charles Hoddy, 830 North Osage; two sisters, Katie Brown of 608 South Ninth and Mary Ann Boor, west of Ponca City, also three aunts and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be said at 7 o'clock tonight in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father David Cowden officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday (9 Feb 1985) in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Cowden as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery under direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket-bearers will be Owen Greer, Charles "Sonny" Williams. Sidney Wilson Jr., Sidney Wilson III, Bill Marchesoni and Charles Wilson.
Honorary bearers will be Ponca City firemen, also Bill Edwards, Elman Fuchs, E.G. Davis, Clarence Cain, Gordon Mullins, Jim Hall, Ellison "Bink" DeNoya and Leonard Dennison.
A memorial fund has been established with Hospice of Ponca City, Inc., and contributions may be made in Hoddy's name directly to that organization. P.O. Box 2525, Ponca City. OK 74602.
The family will be at the residence on Route 2.
