He was born August 30, 1936 in Ware County, Georgia. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Bennett resided most of his life in Ware County and he retired from Champion International as a machinist. He was a member of Zion Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Doll Benjamin Bennett and Betty Mae White Bennett; and his sister, Betty Gail Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Francine Carter Bennett of Millwood, GA; two daughters, Pam Bennett Perritt (Richard) of Waycross, Ga, Lea Bennett Singletary (Johnny) of Hahira, GA; two sons, Leon Eugene Bennett, Jr. (Alicia) of Millwood, GA, Kennsel Bennett (Jackie) of Waycross, GA; six grandchildren, Paige Young (Ryan), Justin Bennett (Anna), Jacob Bennett (Ashley), Kensley Hoover (Jacob), Joshua Bennett, and Steven Perritt; five great grandchildren, Sienna Bennett, Bode Bennett, Sieley Bennett, Graham Bennett, Sawyer Linn Hoover, and expecting Mannen Young in April; one sister, Wanda Peacock (Dub) of Waycross, GA; one brother Olen Huey Bennett (Deloris) of Millwood, GA; one brother-in-law, Rev. Clayton Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (March 28, 2022) at Zion Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Millwood, GA. Burial will follow in Mt. Green Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Church.
