Allen, Robert G. "Bob" "Grandad" age 91, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa and currently Maple Plain where he lived at the Bryant House. Bob was born in Brunswick, NE on Mary 9, 1916 and died January 4, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital. Survived by son, Jerry (Lori) of Long Lake; daughter, Madeline of Des Moines, IA; granddaughter, Kate Allen and "special" grandson, Keith (Casey) Segner and "great-grandchildren" Nolan and Taryn Segner. Also survived by brother, Richard (Winona) and sister, Nell. Bob had a great sense of humor which was evident in his daily life. He loved everyone and was a caring man. he grew up on a farm with five brothers and one sister where they learned the value of hard work and the importance of being a decent individual. Bob was in WWII and captured during the Battle of the Bulge. As a POW, he was part of "Slaughterhouse Five" where he experienced the bombing of Dresden Feb. 14, 1945. A special thank you to the entire staff at the VA Hospital where he received the best care possible and to the Bryant House where he lived his life with dignity surrounded by love. Service Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 10:45 AM at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue South, Mpls. Visitation 5-8 PM Tuesday at David Lee Funeral Home, Wayzata. Interment following the service at Fort Snelling.
