Hamlin Democrat Thur March 16 1950

Mr Caleb Adkins, well known and prominent citizen of Sias, died unexpectedly within a few feet of this home, after getting out of a taxi and walking a path to his home Tuesday afternoon. He had been in Hamlin on business. Mr Adkins had been suffering from a heart ailment for sometime, but was able to do his farm work.
Mr Adkins was twice married, His first wife met a tragic death in a tobacco barn at her home while assisting in the stripping of tobacoo, several years ago. Two children were born to their union, Mrs Xenia Cummings of Huntington and Adrian Adkins of Logan county and of Sias
Mr Adkins was later married to Miss Sarah Adkins, a Lincoln county school teacher, who survives, together with the son and daughter above named, and a sister Mrs. Leota Lovejoy, of Sias.
The deceased was a man noted for his popularity since early childhood up to the time of his death. He was kind and considerate to his family and friends, a very propersous and industrious farmer, and took an active part in the affairs of his community. He also did carpentering and was quite efficient in this work.
The funeral is being held at the Collins Knob Church at two oclock Thursday, the Rev. Ebb Cummings and Rev Elijah Adkins, Lifelong friends of the deceased, conducting the services. Burial will be in the Golesberry cemetery at Sias. A large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives are attending the last rites. The body was removed from the Johnson-Koontz Funeral Home at two O'clock Wednesday afternoon.
