LIMA -- Virginia May "Ginny" Cook, age 90, passed away at 2:53 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2022, at Van Crest of Ada
Ginny was born July 22, 1931 in Lima, OH, to the late Clifford and Gladys (Boham) Green. On October 18, 1952 she married her one true love, LeRoy "Smoke" Cook who preceded her in death on November 3, 1990.
Ginny was a graduate and Salutatorian of the Lima Central High School class of 1949. She was a devoted homemaker and proud wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma. Her family was her pride and joy. Ginny was a talented writer and loved writing poetry and letters to her beloved family. Her dream had been to become a teacher and she achieved that through tutoring her family and helping them with their homework. Ginny enjoyed spending time outside, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
She is survived by five children, Janet (Robert) Hoehn of Zanesfield, Robert Cook of Spencerville, Barbara Smith of Lima, Connie Chirico of Ada and Diane (David) Tobe of Lima; daughter-in-law, Debra Cook; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, James Cook; daughter, Carol Spencer and 3 sisters, Alice (Ralph) Bowersock, Mildred (Dominic) Musto and Mary (Clarence) Bowers.
Memorial services celebrating Ginny's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, prior to the service at the funeral home.
