Rites at Graveside Arranged for Father Of Former Mayor

Graveside services for Lafe Duke, 92, father of former Mayor Earl K. Duke, 201 S. Pershing, will be held for the family at 10 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery.

The Rev. Dr. Herbert Cockerill, pastor of College Hill Methodist Church, will officiate.

Mr. Duke died at his home in Los Angeles, Calif., Sunday and funeral services were held there Wednesday.

Mr. Duke was born April 29, 1868, in Waterloo, Iowa. His wife died in Wichita in October 1918. While residing in Wichita he was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church. After moving to Los Angeles in 1927 he transferred his membership to Church of the Brethren.

Survivors, in addition to Earl, include three other sons, Paul, Clarence and Ralph, all of Los Angeles; a, brother, Ralph,Oelwein, Iowa; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
