James Byrum is Buried at Arcola -- Arcola, Feb. 13, 1920 -- James Byrum died at his home here Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock after a short illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted at his late home by Rev. H. G. Hueser, pastor of the Arcola Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Arcola Cemetery. James Byrum was about 53 years of age. He came to this section in 1915. His wife became insane last summer and was taken to the Hospital at Kankakee and was not well enough to attend the funeral. It is said that the couple have a son and a daughter in Indiana but attempts to communicate with them failed. Note: James had 4 children with his first wife, and his second wife had a son and a daughter by her previous marriage. James Edward Byrum was the son of Emanuel Byrum and Rebecca Ann Smith. He married Sarah Anna Morris, the daughter of John Morris and Amanda Jane Stansberry on Decc. 12, 1888 in Putnam County, Indiana. They had 4 children. According to a news article, he abandoned his first wife and the children. After the divorce he married Elizabeth Ann Carman, daughter of Elijah Carman and Lucy Besham. No children were born from this union. After his death, a man became curious about who he was and started investigating. He found an advertisement in a Green Castle paper , his family looking for him. They were contacted and his son came to Arcola. It was suggested that his father had disappeared, that he was a Civil War Veteran. Records show he was with Co. E, 38th IND. and was given a disability pension.
