Flossie Leona Holden Barton left her earthly life to be with her Jesus on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

Flossie was born in Swain County on July 24, 1929, to Jim and Bertha Holden.

Her family relocated to Transylvania County in 1944 when the TVA began procuring land for the building of Fontana Dam.

She was the last surviving member of the 10 children her parents raised.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband James Elzie Barton; three granddaughters Melissa Austin of West Monroe, Louisiana; Tina Tucker of Elberton, Georgia and Pamela Gaddy of Topton, North Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Amber Skye Galloway of Brevard; and great-great-granddaughter Ava Daugherty of Brevard.

Flossie was a woman of many talents. She worked for Sears for 20 years and was a million-dollar salesperson for several of those years. After her retirement she was not content to stay home. She returned to school and obtained her CNA license and worked in the home health field for several more years. She continued to study and became very interested in writing.

She has written many stories about her life growing up on the mountain farm, several poems, and additional stories of more recent times. She enjoyed sharing these with her family and close friends. Other favorite activities were working in her flowers and garden and traveling.

Flossie has been a member of Cherryfield Baptist church for many years. She especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Her favorite song was "How Great Thou Art". Even after her memory began to fade, she could remember the words and could frequently be found singing this song.

Flossie had a large family who loved her dearly. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Lynn Tyler, James "Jake" Barton, Robert Barton, and Ida Rogers; Flossie had a total of 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Cherryfield Baptist Church at 1:00 on Monday, March 21, 2022, followed with the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
