Doris Vera Pohl, age 99 of York, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in York. She was born August 18, 1922 in Tobias, NE, to William and Amanda (Heidemann) Holtmeier, the second of five daughters. She was baptized September 10, 1922 at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, by the Reverend E.O. Potratz. Doris attended Zion Lutheran School through eighth grade and confessed her baptismal faith in the rite of confirmation on April 14, 1935, having been instructed by the Reverend W.G. Nau. Her confirmation verse was, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." (John 14:6).

Doris graduated from Tobias High School in 1939. She was employed at Concordia Teachers College at Seward, NE. It was there that she met her husband, Merlin Pohl. They were married on May 9, 1943 at the Zion Lutheran Church by the Reverend C.F. Schrein. The union was blessed with two children, Gary and Gwen.

Merlin and Doris were blessed with sixty years of teaching-preaching ministry in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. They were privileged to serve in these areas: Iowa-2 years, Texas-1 year, Washington-12 years, Oregon-5 years, Minnesota-10 years, Michigan-10 years, and Alabama-20 years. In 2003 while serving Christ Lutheran Church in Tuscaloosa, AL, her husband passed away. It was at this time that Doris chose to come back to Nebraska, her home state.

Making York her home, she became a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the LWML, Singles Ministry, Mission Service Ladies and Women's Bible Study. Her faith, family and friends were the joys of her life.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, the Reverend Gary L. Pohl and his wife, Jane Anne; and her daughter, Gwen Pohl Infante and her husband, Dr Peter Infante;, two grandchildren, Alex and Maria Infante, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Amanda Holtmeier, husband the Reverend Merlin S. Pohl, four sisters, Evelyn, Ruth, Letha, and Betty, and an infant grandson, Christopher Infante.

The Pohl family would like to thank all who have expressed their Christian sympathy in loving and caring ways during this time of loss.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church in York. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Tobias, NE.
