This grave was originally unmarked in the PawPaw Gap Cemetery in the vicinity of Palmer above the Sutton Dam. All but 3 of the 79 graves in the cemetery (No 4) were relocated by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1959/60 to the brand new Braxton County Memorial Cemetery prior to the completion of the dam. The original site was submerged in the backwaters of the dam or rendered inaccessible.
