Alfred "Ray" Singleton, Jr., 68, Matthews, NC, passed away on February 5, 2019 at Novant Presbyterian Main Hospital. Born on October 20, 1950 in Monroe, Union County, NC he was the son of the late Ruby Blalock and Alfred Ray Singleton, Sr.
Funeral services in celebration of Ray's life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Matthews United Methodist Church with the family receiving relatives and friends for the hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews.
Ray attended Wake Forest University where he received his Bachelors in Business Administration, he later went on to LSU where he obtained a degree from the "Graduate School of Banking of the South. He spent his working career as a Commercial Loan Officer and his recreational time enjoying reading, volunteer work, playing golf, SEC football, but most importantly spending quality time with his family. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who had a tremendous sense of humor, a huge kind and caring heart, he was kind and compassionate a good listener, a dedicated employee and truly a family man. He was committed to community service, belonging to his local Rotary group for over 20 years, holding a variety of offices; he was a member of the board of Hospice of Union County from 1994 – 1997 where he was honored with a Leadership Award, and he served the United Way of Central Carolinas in various volunteer positions.
Ray is survived by the love of his life Karen Conger Forehand, to whom he was married to for 33 years, his daughter Melissa Singleton Grab and husband Jonathan; and son Charles Singleton; sister Sally Bailey Clemmer; brother in law Randy Forehand and wife Julie; nieces Katherine Forehand Reynolds, Sarah Maxey, Eleanor Forehand Cochrane, Emily Forehand and Nephew Jay Forehand. He is also survived by his beloved Dachshund Harley. He was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by his parents Alfred Ray Singleton, Sr. and Ruby Blaock Singleton who predeceased him.
