BIOGRAPHY

Louis Farr Jones was born in San Angelo, Texas and spent his youth and school years there. He was a former Eagle Scout and was very active in high school. He was a 1943 graduate of San Angelo High School.

During World War II, he served as an Army Air Corp Cadet and he served during the Korean War. He earned two college degrees, one in English and one in religion. He was married and the father of two children, Jana and Jonathon. He was in the Air Force Reserves and was recalled to active duty with the rank of Major in 1964.

He started his tour in Vietnam in October 1967 and within a few short weeks was shot down over Laos as he was the bombardier/navigator of an F4C. The pilot was able to eject and was rescued.

SYNOPSIS: Louis, a 22-year veteran of the military, was shot down over Laos on November 29, 1967. He was the bombardier/navigator onboard an F4C Phantom fighter/bomber whose pilot was apparently rescued. The aircraft was downed in Savannakhet Province about 5 miles southwest of the city of Sepone, Laos.

Colonel Louis Farr Jones was buried with full military honors in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in Comal, California on March 10, 2004.

POW NETWORK

On July 3, 1985, Jones Hall, a student dormitory (Building 239) was dedicated at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas. The building is located on the north side of Yale Street opposite the base Chapel.

His name is on the Wall at Panel 31E Line 004.
