Evangelist Velma Lee Jones Shadell was born on August 27, 1938 to the union of the late Abraham Jones and Elizabeth Grogan Jones in Vinton, LA. At an early age Velma moved to Orange and united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under Pastor O.B. Batiste. Velma was very active in the church and will always be remembered for the beautiful voice and how she used it to sing praises to the Lord. Velma attended Emma H Wallace High School and was a member of the Class of 1959.

Velma and Oscar R. Shadell were united in marriage on November 15, 1957. To this union was born two sons, Sherman Scott Shadell and Samuel O'Neal Shadell.

Oscar and Velma moved to New York in 1965, and she was employed by the Equal Opportunity Commission as a Program Coordinator and later advanced to Senior Community Advocate.

Upon her arrival in Central Islip, N.Y. Velma united with New Hope Baptist Church. In 1983 Velma united with the Church of God Triumphant under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Seaton. She was a member of the Intercessory Prayer Group under the directorship of sister Barbara Seaton and a member of the Bible Foundation Class. Velma attended the Church of God Ministerial School. She was ordained on January 13, 1985 under Evangelistic Assembly, Inc. Evangelist Velma Shadell and her husband Evangelist Oscar R. Shadell were sent to Orange, Texas under the leadership of Overseer Pastor Anthony Seaton of Church of God Triumphant on October 22, 1985. They became Co-Founders and Overseers of Triumphant Ministries Inc,. which is registered with the State of Texas, and Washington D.C. She organized the Intercessory Prayer group and was active as a Bible Foundation Teacher, Counselor, and Praise Leader. God continued to use her beautiful voice until Sunday April 26, 1987 at 9:43 A.M.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, Evangelist Oscar R. Shadell; her sons, Sherman Scott Shadell, and Samuel O'Neal Shadell, of Orange, TX; granddaughter, Isabel Melissa Shadell; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor; brothers, Marvin Jones and Herman Jones; her sister, Mrs. Georgia Mae Howard, all of New York, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
