On June 15, 1904, Bonnie married LeRoy Nelson, and with him she had a son, Fred Bauer Nelson (1905-1965). On September 27, 1910, she married Edward Motron Shannon (1887-1942) of Lenape, Kansas. With him, she had three sons: Robert "Bob" (1911-1979), Edward Motron, Jr. (1915-1985) and Charles William "Bill" (1917-1976). The family first lived on Edward's chicken ranch in Lenape, then after Bill was born, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Bonnie learned hairdressing and taught school part-time.
In 1928, the Shannon family moved to Pomona, California, where Bonnie opened the Palais Beauty Salon at 267 S. Locust Street; later in the Hotel Edgar (today's Mayfair Hotel). A loving and devoted mother, Bonnie Shannon died of liver cancer at Madison Hospital in Los Angeles in 1939, greatly mourned by all who knew her.
