Lowell Laufenberg was born in Alice, ND on November 21, 1927. He was the middle child of Margaret and Ernest Laufenberg. Lowell went to the rural country school, Alice School, and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1945. Some of dad's favorite high school activities would include roller-skating, hunting, and dancing. After school Lowell started farming with his dad, then continued with his lifelong career of farming. Lowell met the love of his life Coral Buckle while roller-skating. They were married on September 29, 1951 and were married for 65 years.

Lowell was the Clifton township clerk for several years. He was involved in the Alice Wildlife Club. Lowell helped to start the fund raising for the first Alice Fire Truck. Lowell was an active member of Saint Henry's Catholic Church. Lowell and Coral both taught catechism class. Lowell loved wood working and made so many beautiful things; including Christmas tree ornaments and several shelves, benches, and stools. He also loved to garden. Planting gladiolas bulbs for mom and picking crocuses for her also. He built bird houses for the Purple Martins and watched them every spring. Lowell had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed sitting by the garage and waving at the neighbors when they drove by. He also loved his dogs and trained them all to shake, roll over, and jump up on the well pump.
