Obituary of Mary C Matheson - Sprague Washington
Pioneer Woman Taken By Death
Mrs. D. W. Matheson, a pioneer of the Sprague community, passed away at her home early Tuesday morning.
Mary C. Fish was born in Jackson, Michigan, August 24, 1854. She came West with her parents in 1885, settling in Sprague and was married March 6 the following year to D. W. Matheson, and they have made their home here for more than forty years. Mrs. Matheson was a member of the Rebekah lodge for over twenty years. She was 74 years old at the time of her death.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. R. E. Tuttle, Iowa; Mrs. A. A. Baldwin, Sprague; Mrs. C. R. Brown, Portland, and Mrs. L. A. Russell, Bremerton; two sons, W. Hand D. J. Matheson, California; one brother, one sister, sixteen grandchildren, and for great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are to be held at the Federated church this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Dr. J. Charles Evans officiating, and burial will be in the Maccabee cemetery.

SLE page 473-4 has a photo of Donald W. and Mary C. Matheson. The item indicates that she was a widow when she married Donald, and had at least one child by her previous marriage, Mabel Schemmerhorn. No data locally was obtained on this child who was apparently with her in 1883 when she came to this area to help her brothers and her mother, Mary C. Laverty Fish, now resting in Lakeview Cemetery.
