The 1861 Census states that Rev. Bree, 74, was the rector of Allesley, and that he, his wife, Helena, 63, and their daughter Elizabeth, 36, lived at the Rectory in the village of Allesley, Warwickshire.
Rev. Bree, who was rector of Allesley for forty years, was well known in the scientific world as a naturalist and an author. He had a robust constitution, and it was said that when he was in his seventies the sight of a rare plant tempted him to wade barefoot into a tarn ( a small mountain lake) in the Isle of Skye. One of the last things Rev. Bree did was to restore All Saints Church, it was said to be in a bad state of decay. He lived long enough to see the restoration completed, but died before the re-opening service which took place in October 1863. After his death, his son, the Rev. William Bree took over as rector of Allesley.
