Vera L. Crowley of Wymore died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at her home.

She was born to Louie and Hazel Violet (Shores) DeRock at Wymore, was a lifetime resident of Wymore, and was a 1937 graduate of Wymore High School.

She married Maurice C. Crowley on May 3, 1941, at Hot Springs, Ark. She moved with Maurice to several locations during World War II, but they returned to Wymore in 1945. They owned and operated Donn's Flowers in Wymore for 25 years, retiring in May 1990. Vera was a member of the Wymore United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was over a 50-year member of Violet Chapter 105, Order of Eastern Star at Wymore, and was a past matron. She was also a member of Anderson Unit 25 of the American Legion Auxiliary. Vera's hobbies included playing bridge and spending time at their cottage at the beach and at their farm.

Vera is survived by two sons, Maurice C. Crowley Jr. and his wife Sonja of Rapid City, S.D., and Joe Crowley of Blue Springs; by five grandchildren, Jeffrey Crowley of Utica, Dan Crowley of Elm Creek, Matthew Crowley of Dana Point, Calif., Jason Crowley and his wife Vanessa of Kearney, and Jennifer Oho and her husband Jason of Plantation, Fla.; by a stepgrandson, Darrin Wait and his wife Jennifer of Sioux Falls, S.D.; by seven great-grandchildren; by a sister, Marj DeRock of Wymore; by a brother, Bill DeRock and his wife Jan of Omaha; and by nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Hazel Violet (Shores) DeRock; by her husband, Maurice, on Oct. 28, 2001; by her son, Donn Crowley, on March 20, 1990; by a granddaughter, Melissa Crowley; and by two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Wymore Cemetery, Dan Albers of the Wymore United Methodist Church officiating.

Visitation will be at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St., Wymore, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
