"Cecil Barton Cantrell, 73, of 2241 State Park Road, Greenville, SC died Wednesday, December 29, 1993 at the Richard M. Campbell nursing home in Anderson.

Born November 26, 1920 in Greenville County, a son of the late William M. and Ocia Barton Cantrell, he lived all of his life in the Greenville area and was a graduate of Parker High School. A brick mason contractor for 30 years, he was a retired employee of Santee Portland Cement, Inc. and once taught masonry at Greenville Technical College.

Mr. Cantrell was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and the Mason's Union Local #7, and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Williams Cantrell; two sons, Cecil B. Cantrell, Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Franklin Grant Cantrell of Simpsonville, SC; a sister, Bernice C. Moore of Greenville; a brother J.M. Cantrell of Greenville; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday at the Downtown Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Section 'L'.

The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown."

S SGT US ARMY AIR CORPS - WORLD WAR II.

He served from 1943 to 1945 in the 781st Bomb Squadron, 456th BG (H), 55th Bomb Wing, 15th Air Force of the US Army Air Corps, operating out of the Pantanella Airfield approx 15km South of Cerignola in Southern Italy. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 "Liberator", piloted by Grant A. Benson, Jr. and flew 35 missions over Southern Europe. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded an Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

Son-in-law of David Franklin and Lula (nee Strange) Williams.
