In 1888 Jason and Mary Foote and family suffered another tragic loss when five of their children lost their lives within 8 days of each other. The cause of death was Diphtheria believed due to contaminated well water. Records show the family were renting a home within the village of Paw Paw, Michigan.
Children Chauncey, Ida May, Willie, Mamie and an Infant Alene are believed to be resting next to Gramma Sophia as Ida May's obituary (attached to her memorial) states that her "final resting place was in what was known as the "Old Cemetery", aka Pioneer cemetery. Exactly which child is resting in which of these five plots is unknown.
