Mildred was married twice. She was first married to James Hinton Lee, whom she divorced. She later married Robert Roscoe Griffis. Mack was the biological son of James Hinton Lee, however he later took the surname of Griffis and was raised in the home of Robert Roscoe Griffis and Mildred Etta Carter-Griffis.

Mildred died during childbirth as did her mother and her sister, Macy Mazelle Carter-Griffis.
