David A. Nelson Sr., 83, of St. Augustine, passed Dec. 29, 2017, at the Bailey Center. He was born in St. Augustine to Thomas and Frances Nelson, one of 12 children. He honorably served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and afterward enjoyed a 28-year career at Marineland of Florida. He loved to go to the beach and enjoyed fishing, gardening, cook-outs and being with his family.
Services will take place at 9 a.m. on Jan. 13 at the Basilica in St. Augustine.

Nelson, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Judith Nelson of St. Augustine; daughter, Elizabeth Nelson Marshall of Statesboro, Georgia, Elise Nelson Barrett of Durham, North Carolina (Patrick), Daniel Nelson of Palm Coast (Stephanie); step-children include Jailene of Maine, Tarma of Jacksonville, Reahna and Dustin of St. Augustine; his sister, Kitty Nelson Thorpe (John); seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
