Virgil O. Johnson was a retired painting contractor and also an Idabel businessman for 36 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Idabel and an active member of the Idabel Masonic Lodge where he was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason of McAlester.
On May 9, 1936, Johnson married Donna Rhea Barber in Hugo and moved to Idabel shortly thereafter.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was born in Amity, Ark.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, James V. Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., Jack L. Johnson of Richardson, Texas, Fred K. Johnson of Idabel and Tim R. Johnson of Bogalusa, La.; one sister, Mrs. Pierce McCoy of Duncan; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
