C. Michael "Mike" Hewing, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at his home in Teutopolis, surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the Teutopolis Civic Club, Teutopolis Trap Team, or St. Francis Cemetery.

Mike was born on December 31, 1940, in Effingham, Illinois. He was a lifelong resident of Teutopolis, Illinois and the only child of Albert "Penny" Hewing and Redith (Dettro) Hewing.

Mike graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1959. He liked to brag that he was voted "Most Handsome Man of 1959", but his true pride was in the sports he participating which included baseball, basketball, and tennis. He earned many varsity letters in high school and served as captain of the basketball team. Baseball was Mike's favorite sport, but in particular, pitching.

Mike's father, Penny Hewing, shared his love for sports, but they also shared the love of dogs and hunting. Mike claimed in his yearbook that his most prized possession was his dog, "Dopey". The dog was known to follow him on his Chicago Daily News paper route when he was a kid. Dopey was a mixed breed, but Mike mostly owned birddogs coinciding with his love for hunting. Mike's father introduced him to hunting as a young boy. His hunting adventures included everything from squirrels, waterfowl, turkey, coyotes, deer, elk, and bears. He too shared his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. Mike continued to hunt well into his late 70's.

In 1956, Mike met his first wife, Anna Mae (Goeckner) Hewing in the hospital following a rollover truck accident which involved thirteen Teutopolis students. They were married in 1961 at St. Aloysius Church in Bishop Creek. Together they had 6 children. Anna Mae passed away in 1998. Later, Mike married Beth Humphrey in 2000. The couple met during one of Mike's business adventures. She survives.

Upon completion of high school, Mike was employed at Dan Hecht Chevrolet. Mike attributed his business knowledge to the late owner of the dealership, Dan Hecht, Senior. Then in 1982, Mike made a major career move, he was employed by Edward Jones as a financial advisor. During his tenure with Edward Jones, he qualified for the firms highest recognition conference 19 times. He truly loved serving his clients and many became his friend. Mike not only guided his clients during his career, he mentored many young Financial Advisors including his daughter, Lynn Deters. His guidance, knowledge, and friendship touched the lives of thousands of people. Following his retirement in 2010, researching and trading stocks continued to be an everyday hobby.

Mike served on many organizations including the Teutopolis Village Board and was also Village Clerk. He was a founding member of the Effingham County Bow Bender, Ducks Unlimited, and the Wild Turkey Federation. He was a member of the Teutopolis Investment Club and a past President of the Lions Club. He served on the Effingham Police Pension Board and the St. Anthony Hospital Advisory Board. He was one of the visionaries and founding member of Wooden Shoe Development.

Mike leaves behind loving wife Beth of 21 years of marriage. Also surviving are his 6 kids, Penny Rardin, husband Brian of rural Effingham; Todd Hewing, friend Amy Martin of Hidalgo; Brenda Brown of Effingham; Lynn Deters, husband Bruce of rural Montrose; Michael Hewing, wife Christine (Roley) Hewing of Mode; Lee Ann Schmidgall, husband Bryan Schmidgall of Teutopolis. Step-daughter, Mystic Bieliecki, husband Don of Fairfield and Step-son, Trevor Hinkle, wife Gracie of Geismar, LA. Mike also leaves behind 17 grandkids and 14 great-grandkids.
