Little Bill was named for his uncle, George William Longley. In the 1880 Census for Smith County, Little Bill is shown as a farm laborer. Longley family lore states that Little Bill was thrown from a horse and died of injuries sustained.

Father, Isaac Longley traveled with his brother from McMinn Valley, TN, relocating to Murray County, GA (1850 Census), also shown near Childersburg, AL in the same 1850 Census. Isaac named his first born from his brother and thus the individual in this grave was "Little Bill".

(1888-1974) buried in Kendrick Cemetery, Smith County, TX) as George William Longley Sr instead of George William Longley II. In a continued point, George II also named his son George William Longley (1910-1987) buried in Oakland Cemetery, Terrell, TX).

Little Bill was orphaned when his father, Isaac, died of Camp Fever as a member of Hubbard's Regiment near Cabot, Arkansas. Mother Sarah Ellen Shackelford Longley remarried in 1892 to Hugh Lunsford Owens.
