Robert Charles Loucks ("Bob"), 83, died on Friday, February 11, 2022 in Cherry Valley, New York. An avid lover of family, God, country, and the outdoors, Bob was a true firecracker. He lived a life rich with service and his everlasting presence can be found throughout his beloved hometown of Cherry Valley.

Bob was born July 4, 1938, son of Robert D. and Ada May (Winslow) Loucks. He was the oldest of three sons. Bob was well-known for his athletic abilities. He was a very skilled three-sport athlete throughout high school, with baseball being his greatest talent. Following his senior year, he was approached by the Brooklyn Dodgers and given an offer to join their organization. Instead, Bob chose to stay local and married JoAnn May Prill on May 4, 1957.

He began his highly successful career at GLF in 1957, which later became Agway. Committed to his community, Bob served as Supervisor of the Town of Cherry Valley for 36 years, retiring in 2005. One of his proudest endeavors was opening the Community Health Center in Cherry Valley in 1978. Bob was previously a member of the Cherry Valley Fire Department and was one of many to help organize the Cherry Valley Ambulance Squad, proudly serving as part of their original crew. From 1989-1991, Bob helped to organize the Old School Committee for Cherry Valley, transforming the old Cherry Valley School into a vibrant community center and establishing the new post office location within that building. In 2017, the gymnasium was dedicated in his honor, becoming the Robert C. Loucks Memorial Gym.

Bob's life was full of faith, family, hunting, and farming. Nothing gave him greater satisfaction than chasing a wily whitetail through the hills of Cherry Valley and the mountains of the Adirondacks. Countless hunting and fishing trips were spent with his brothers, son, grandchildren, and dear friends - "The Hunters." Grace Episcopal Church in Cherry Valley held a special place in Bob's heart. As a lifelong, third-generation member, he was exceedingly proud to see his children and grandchildren married in Grace Church, as well as witnessing the baptisms of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served for many years as church treasurer. He was also an active member of the Vestry. In 1984, Bob and JoAnn started their Veggie Stand, serving residents of Cherry Valley and the surrounding area. It was one of the most popular places to secure fresh veggies for over 30 years. All seven grandchildren worked in the gardens, planting and harvesting the crops, while learning an endless amount of valuable lessons and colorful language.

Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnn, and beloved children, Kim (Lyle), Amy (Tom), and Bobby (Colleen). He was the devoted grandfather to Celia (Ryan), Bethany, Tiffany (Fred), Stephanie (R.J.), Mallory, Chad, and Lauren. Bob was an exceedingly proud great-grandfather to Jossalynn, Luke, and Greta. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Steven (Melanie) and Stanley (Peggy), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob's funeral is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, February 26th at Grace Episcopal Church in Cherry Valley. Visitation hours will be held on Friday, February 25th from 4-7 PM. Burial will be held in the spring.

In recognition of Bob's devotion to his community, donations can be made to the Cherry Valley Fire Department, Cherry Valley Library, Cherry Valley Museum, and Grace Episcopal Church.
