Tony Major Barney, Sr. Feb. 7, 1933 - Jan. 26, 2013 Mr. Tony Major Barney, Sr., 79, of Dogwood Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Davie County to the late Jim and Beulah Boger Barney. Mr. Barney was a member of First Baptist Church, Mocksville and was retired from Hanes/Sara Lee Hosiery. In his retirement years, he was a carp master, an avid fisherman and managed Gene's Carp Lake. He loved playing cards with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Barney. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann Allen Barney of the home, three children, Martha Johnson (Jim) of Montgomery, AL, Tony Barney, Jr. and Diane Vogler (Jerry Bodenheimer), all of Advance; a sister, Allie Richardson of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Levi Barney (Virginia) of Lexington, Bobby Barney (Jessie) of Advance, Jimmy Barney (Shirley) of Midway and Grady Barney (Chris) of Advance; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. A private interment will follow at a later time. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
