Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 16th at First Faith United Methodist Church. Reverend Ray Stone will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Shirley was born on December 31, 1936 on a family farm in Otoe County the daughter of Henry and Ruby (Schmidt) Homfeld. She attended country school and moved to Grand Island with her family in 1951. She found employment at Made-Rite Cafe and Martha's Café in her early years. While working at Made-Rite Cafe, she met the love of her life and travel partner, Norman. On December 21, 1954 she was united in marriage to Norman Stelk. Shirley worked for Lewis Greenscapes for 22 years and was always helping her husband on the farm. Following their retirement from the farm they enjoyed traveling. Other enjoyments of Shirley included bowling, needle work, playing cards and gardening. Her greatest treasure was her family especially her grandkids and great grandkids.
Those left to cherish her memory include children, Dennis (Janelle) Stelk of Phillips, Rick Stelk of Alda, Sharon (Rudy) Kruse of Grand Island and Leslie Stelk (Paula Mayfield) of Grand Island; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and her siblings, Norma Jean Glause of Palmer, Carolyn Ossana of Hurricane, UT, Charlene (Gary) Peterson of Grand Island, Rosalie Roscoe of Grand Island and Donna (Ken) Noel of Grand Island.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman who died August 3, 2020; her parents, Henry and Ruby Homfeld and parents-in-law, Arthur Sr and Ruth Stelk.
