Betty J. Caviness went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 12, 2021. She was surrounded by her husband and her two daughters.

Mrs. Caviness was born in 1938 in Ruffin, NC and spent her early years in Bennett, NC. Once her husband took a church in Burlington, NC, they created a beautiful life in Alamance County. As a faithful pastor's wife for over 54 years, she was a mighty prayer warrior and confidant for many people over the years. She and her husband would have been married 66 years on July 3rd. She was his "sweetheart". Mrs. Betty held many titles. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mawmaw, daughter, sister, and friend. She loved her entire family and was proud to brag about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was a hard worker. Throughout her lifetime, she worked several jobs, but her most rewarding job was being called Mawmaw. They truly were the apple of her eye. Even as precious as they were to her, her salvation and what it meant to her was second to none. She loved the Lord and was a true soldier for winning lost souls. She was a Proverbs 31 woman through and through. There will be a huge hole in Solid Rock Baptist Church, as well as the loss of the matriarch of our family.

Betty is survived by her husband, Rev. Edsel Caviness, two daughters, Tammy Caviness Gilley (Wayne), and Cathy Caviness Dunman (Doug), grandchildren, Brandi Dunman Adkins (Jamie) and Matthew Gilley (Lynnesaye), great grandchildren, Logan Adkins, Landon Adkins, Lance Adkins, Hunter Gilley, and AnnaBeth Gilley. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Oldham, and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jessie McNeill, two sisters, Francis Mozelle Routh and Nettie Aildean Routh, and a brother, James McNeill.

Arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be from 11:00 am-12:45 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 and the funeral will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Graham, NC. Interment will be at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Solid Rock Baptist Church, Burlington, NC, attention building fund. All proceeds will go towards building a handicap ramp at the church in her memory.

A special thanks to Community Hospice, Dr. Scott, and all the other doctors and nurses for all their help during this time. A very special thanks to Kim Lloyd, Ayesha Clark, and Ebony Watson. All the care, love, and concern you've provided to us during this time will never be forgotten.
