Russell Edge, known to many as "The Music Man," passed away on August 5, 2018, at the age of 65 years.

Russell was born in Pearson, Georgia on August 13, 1952, to James & Stella Mae Edge. He was raised by his stepfather, Frank Bennett, who he referred to as his father. Russell later joined the United States Air Force after graduating from High School, in June, 1971. Russell served our Country from June 14, 1971 until June 13, 1975 at which time he was honorably discharged. He received The Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. Russell's love for his country and fellow Veterans was undeniable.

Russell met the Love of his life, Debra (Sarah's Mother), at the "Port-OCall" in Kingsville, where he was playing back in 1976. This was the one true love in his life.

Russell made his final home in Port Aransas. He had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a hand to help those in need, especially after experiencing Hurricane Harvey, where he would put his own needs second to help others. He had a great love for music and would perform at many of the local establishments. Over time, he became known as "The Music Man." Russell's home away from home was the "Gaff" where, with his longtime friend Kip, he would put on the Belt Sander Races, play his music and help with the day-to-day operations. Russell was also a regular entertainer at the "Crazy Cajun."

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah; two step-daughters, Barbara and Tami ; three brothers, Gene, Robert, and Johnny; one grandson, Sean; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members.

A Memorial service will be held August 20th at 5:00 p.m. on the beach close to the Dunes Resort, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at the "Gaff." The memorial will be officiated by Gunny Hank, Ret. USMC.

In lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that you make a contribution, to help complete Russell's mission helping two other Veterans, to Adapt A Vet at the link below or you may call the AAVET office @ 210-481- 8060 or mail to: Adapt A Vet, 10906 Laureate Drive, Suite 101 San Antonio TX 78249.
