For a time Homer and his father operated Conklin & Son Furniture Store and Funeral Service in Kilbourne and Homer was the embalmer. Later he bought land and farmed in Wisconsin. They were living in Thorpe, Wisconsin in 1922 at the time of his mother's death. Homer and Bertha had no natural children but adopted a son, Jack Milton Conklin.
Homer had one brother, Leslie Ray Conklin and two sisters, Justie V. Conklin and Daisy G. Conklin. His sisters preceded him in death.
