Richard Greaves graduated from Bethel College in 1960, the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School in 1962, and received his PhD from the University of London in 1964. He taught at Florida Memorial College, William Woods College, Eastern Washington State College, and Michigan State University. He became the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of History at Florida State University in 1989. Greaves wrote, co-authored, edited, and co-edited 26 books.
