Iowan Killed on Forrestal by the Associated Press
Word was received in Everly, Iowa, Sunday of the death of Arnold Lohse, 21, of Everly, a Navy technician on the Forrestal, the US aircraft carrier that was rocked by fire and explosions in the Tonkin Gulf off Vietnam Saturday.
Another Iowan, Navy Lt Denis Barton, 32, son of Mr & Mrs Joseph Barton of Des Moines, is reported among the missing on the carrier.
Lohse, an aviation fire control technician third class, is survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs Edwin Lohse of Everly, two sisters, and a half brother. He was a 1964 graduate of Everly High School and enlisted in the Navy three years ago.
Barton's mother said her son is a Navy pilot who has flown many missions. Sh said he is an operations officer on the Forrester.
