Mrs. Katherine Arrington Rogers, age 75, of the Orianna Community near Soperton, GA, passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, February 9, 2022.

Born in the family home in Kite, she was the youngest daughter and one of six children born to the late Richard Ernest Arrington and Madie Rogers Arrington. She grew up in Soperton and was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County. She was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1965, where she was a classmate of her future husband, Jerry Winford Rogers. While in school she was a standout basketball player and for many years held the record for most points scored by a single player in one game. Until just recently she could still sink hook shots and beat her grandsons in "horse". She married Mr. Jerry in 1966 and they remained married for fifty-five years until his passing in June of 2021. Miss Katherine worked as a bookkeeper with the Treutlen County School System from August of 1988 until her passing. After working all day, she would come home and help Mr. Jerry in the fields of cotton, tobacco, peanuts, and Vidalia onions, into the night or as long as it took to finish the day's chores. In addition to her love of playing basketball, she enjoyed playing Recreation Department softball for Treutlen County. She and Mr. Jerry had attended Orianna Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ernest "Nick" Arrington Jr.,who passed away in 2020.

Miss Katherine leaves behind her children, Ginger Rogers of Peoria, AZ, Wendy Rogers Beasley (Johnny) of Cedar Crossing, Rodney Rogers (Carrie Long) of Soperton; siblings, Richard Arrington (Margie) of Ashburn, Nell Arrington Meeks (Stevie Lee) of Soperton, Helen Lombard (Bill) of Greensboro, Billy Arrington (Sherry) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chase Strickland, Hunter Powell, Neal Long, Bailey Long, and Lizzie Long; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12th from the graveside in Orianna Cemetery, as she is laid to rest beside her husband, with Reverend Arthur Conley and Reverend Troy Mattox officiating. Her family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Sammons Funeral Home, or friends and family may call at the home of her son, Rodney. Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie Hooks, Wade Webb, Neal Long, Ken Webb, Brent Strickland, and James Powell. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
