My father is one of the most important people in my life, and my heart aches with his passing. He was devoted to his family, and worked incredibly hard to give us a fulfilling life. My childhood was filled with adventure, wonder, unique experiences and opportunities. He is a retired Sergeant First Class from the Army, and a Vietnam Veteran. He was a man of the ocean and was known to share stories of his many fishing and diving escapades. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather, or "Silly Papa" as his grandkids call him. He loved watching them grow.

He taught me the value of hard work, having integrity, working with my hands, self discipline, and independence. He shared his love of the ocean with me, and it's a love we continued to bond over throughout my life. He was my biggest coach and teacher.

He had been in the hospital for over a month, and finally lost his battle to COVID on January 8, 2022. He died painlessly, and peacefully in the end.

He is survived by Lonnie, his wife of 35 years. His 4 children: Matthew, Crystal, Jeris and Joshua. And his 4 grandchildren: Jazmine, Lei'Lonnie, TJ, and Derron.

I am trying to raise money for his funeral and memorial expenses to ease some of the financial burden. I want to lay my father and this soldier, to rest.

The funeral service and burial will be in Riverside, CA. The dates and details are still currently being determined.

Funeral service & date has been set.

My father, Jerry, will be buried at the Riverside National Cemetery on February 9. Service will be held at 11:15 am. This will be an outdoor funeral because of Covid, so please check the weather and dress for the weather

A 74-year-old San Bernardino County inmate who was from Glendale died after a month of being hospitalized with COVID-19, the Sheriff's Department said Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Jerry Abalos died on Saturday, Jan. 8, after his condition worsened at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, the Sheriff's Department said in a news release. Abalos was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 5 for treatment after testing positive for COVID-19, authorities said. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 30 while being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Abalos was booked into jail on Sept. 2, 2021, on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14 years old, the Sheriff's Department said. On Sept. 3, he was charged with seven counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child, San Bernardino County Superior Court records show. Abalos pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

The charges alleged that the crimes took place in April 1989 and March 2009, court records showed.
