On the 1840 census it looks like John's mother was living in his household. His sister, Betsy Carpenter Elkins (Goodman Elkins) is the name above his. His brother Sam is a pg before. On the same pg. as Sam is Hezekiah Carpenter. Wish I knew if Kiah was John's brother or a cousin. Kiah MUST be related as Melea Ann Carpenter Bryan and her husband Thomas Bryan moved to Jefferson Co., IL from Bedford Co., TN soon after they married in 1849 and are living in Kiah's household on the 1850 census.
John and Tempie's children:
1. Melea Ann Carpenter Bryan and Thomas W. Bryan. Buried Jefferson Co., IL. Melea is found as Amelia Bryan.
2. Thomas Benjamin Carpenter is buried in Maury Co., TN.
3. Noah Lee Carpenter is buried in Lac Qui Parle Co., MN
4. John Carpenter - can't find after 1850.
5. Temperance Emaline Carpenter Haggard is buried in Denton Co., TX
6. Catherine Elizabeth Carpenter Tindell. Probably died between the birth of her son Dec. 1881 and Aug. 1888 when her husband Wesley W. Tindell remarried. The last place found for Betsy was the 1880 census for Marshall Co., TN. Her husband remarried in Dale, Alabama. She probably died in these places or somewhere in between.
