One of Perryville's well known citizens, William Henry Lurk, died Sunday, Sept. 12 at Perry County Memorial Hospital. The 74-year-old man had been ailing for several years.

Mr. Lurk and his brother, Joe, were co-owners of Lurk Bros. hardware store in Perryville, having opened the business in 1918.

The deceased man was born Sept. 2, 1891 in Ste. Genevieve, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Gallus Lurk. On April 17, 1923, he was married to Irene Buehler.

Surviving besides his wife and brother are three daughters, Mrs. Herbert W. (Margaret Mary) Meyer of Perryville, Mrs. Ralph (Jean Marie) Warneke of St. Louis and Mrs. Donald (Jo Ann) Hayden of Perryvill; and 12 grand-children.

Mr. Lurk, a veteran of World War I, was a past-commander of Moonier-Reddick American Legion Post, having served in that capacity in 1928.

The body was in state at the Bey Funeral Home in Perryville until Wednesday morning when a funeral mass was conducted at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery.
