Thomas "Tom" Gilbert Barron II, 81, of Westminster, MD, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, peacefully at Carroll Hospital Center. Born October 3, 1940 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Thomas Gilbert Barron and Elsie L. Barron. He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra Lee Barron. Tom was a dedicated husband to his high school sweetheart of 57 years, Sandra Lee. He was a man of his word, strong in his convictions, gentle but competitive to the core. He was an avid sports fan who followed the Baltimore Orioles, the Duke Blue Devils, Johnny Unitas, and Tom Brady. He admired horses, fishing, travel, Elvis, John Wayne, black and white western movies, and reading books late into the night. He was a true history buff who enjoyed teaching the Civil War to his grandchildren and an occasional political banter. His entire career was spent in the foodservice industry where he worked his way up to store manager at Giant Food, running a tight ship but a respected one. Tom was the epitome of a grandfather, a "Poppy" to all that he met, and the rock in the lives of all who loved him. He is survived by his son Lee Barron; his daughters, Kimberly Elfert and Tracey Barron; two sons in-law Rolf Elfert and Gary Elfert, grandchildren, Carrie Elfert, Steven Barron, Craig Barron, Meagan Elfert, Sara Elfert, Brandon Elfert, Jake Barron, Gary Elfert II, Kendall Barron, Brett Barron; great-grandchildren, Caden Bower, Ethan Barron, Hannah Orem, Adalin Dawn Renee Hogwood, June Safren, and Reese Hogwood; sister Pat Johnson of North Carolina, sister Mary Lou and Steve Martin of California. He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Schaefer, son Thomas Gilbert Barron III and daughter, Dawn Renee Elfert. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 3 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 12 noon at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Loudon Park Cemetery.
