Carl married Alice "Dorothea" Keen, 2 October 1941 in Walla Walla. They had four children and nineteen grandchildren.
Carl and Dot lived at 1263 Boyer Avenue in Walla Walla for most of their marriage. Carl worked most of his life for Pacific Power & Light Company in Walla Walla. They enjoyed fishing during vacations at Long Beach, Washington, and owned a beach home there.
A grandson, John Jason Smith, and a granddaughter, Rachel Elisabeth Dysart, preceded Carl in death.
