BRUNSWlCK - Andrew Gillis, 59, of Rt. 1, Brunswick passed away Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 23, in the Medical Arts Center following a lingering illness.
A native of Ware County, he had lived in Brunswick for the past seven years. A son of the late Milton Gillis and Lillian Sutton Gillis, he was a construction worker until ill health forced his retirement.
Survivors are his wife, the former Mildred Griffin Harris of Nahunta; a son, Don Gillis of Waycross; two stepdaughters. Mrs. Shirley Groover and Mrs. Helen Ledford, both of Brunswick; three step-sons, J. C. Harris, Thomas Harris, and Terry Harris, all of Hoboken; three sisters, Mrs. Idell Tuffo of Boston, Mass., Mrs. Polly Powell of Athens, Ga., and Mrs. Lois Bull of Texas; six brothers, Clarence, John, Elman, Elton, and Sylvester, all of Jacksonville, and Robert Gillis of Savannah.
There are eight grandchildren and several other relatives.
Services for Mr. Gillis were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon from the Chapel of Clough-Pearson Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chauncey Family Cemetery near Waresboro.
Officiating was Rev. Tom Lawrence of Brunswick.
