David was born on March 29, 1936, in Argyle to Victor and Marie (Nelson) Rossing, the youngest of six children. After graduating from Argyle High School in 1954, he attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota for two years, then transferred to Stout State College in Menomonie, Wisconsin. A memorable event in his life was a trip to Alaska in the summer of 1958 with fellow Argyle resident, Ed Erickson. While there, David worked for the U.S. Army, Civil Service, at Fort Greely.
Following his graduation from Stout in 1959 with a degree in Industrial Technology, he worked briefly at Ossit Church Furniture in Janesville, Wisconsin, then returned to Argyle and worked at the L.A. Rossing Company and Rossing's Fine Foods, both family businesses, until he retired in 2007.
David is survived by his nieces and nephews: Garry (Lynn) Rossing of Argyle, Greg (Ingrid) Rossing of Belgium, Joe Rossing of Argyle, Laura (Howard) Maas of Argyle, and Caroline Rossing of Verona, WI, John (Ann) Emery of Argyle, Vicki (Duan) Damron of Janesville, WI, Sue Emery of Philadelphia, PA, Rhonda Rossing of the Chanhassen, MN, John (Cathy) Rossing of Kingman, AZ, and Mary (Tom) Jensen of Appleton, WI.
David was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Victor, Jr. (Patricia) Rossing and William (Ardyth) Rossing, three sisters: Ruth (Robert) Emery, Dorothy Rossing and Mary Elaine "Charlotte" Rossing, and a nephew, William Wayne Rossing.
David lived with his parents, enabling them to stay in their home their entire lives, especially his mother, who lived to be 100, passing away in 1997. He loved to spend time working in his yard and garden and growing large cacti. He was also a voracious reader and describe himself as a "thinker and writer," who spent a lot of time researching various topics of interest and recording his thoughts in essays, position papers and "letters to the editor" sent to a variety of newspapers.
Erickson Funeral Home is assisting the family; a service for David is being planned for the spring, when his family members are able to gather at his home in Argyle.
