Dale Simmons Curry Elrod
AUGUST 10, 1950 – JANUARY 29, 2022

IN THE CARE OF
Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery
Teresa Dale Simmons Curry (Elrod) of Birmingham, AL passed away January 29, 2022. Dale was comfortably resting in her home when she went to be with the Lord. She left this earth with her beautiful smile on her face while holding hands with her beloved Jim and both her daughters.

Dale was born to her beloved mother Ruth Pope Simmons and James Elmer Simmons on August 10, 1950. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Jo Simmons. She is survived by James Douglas Elrod, her husband of 33 years; brothers James E. Simmons (Suzann), Kenneth V. Simmons (Becky), and Phillip J. Simmons (Jamelle); daughters Brandi Curry Jones (Alan) and Jenny Curry Moore (Brian); and grandchildren Anna Jones, Jacob Moore, and Alaina Jones, as well as many nieces, nephews and stepchildren.

Dale spent her youth in the Birmingham neighborhoods of Woodlawn and East Lake before graduating from Banks High School in 1968. She had an angelic voice and loved to sing, especially at church. Some of her fondest memories were of her time spent at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She received her B.S.N. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing and married her high school sweetheart, Pat Curry.

Later Dale and Jim married in 1988 and spent many years enjoying a shared hobby of photography and exploring their favorite vacation spot, the Great Smoky Mountains. Dale had a long career as a hospice nurse in Birmingham and worked for Baptist Medical Center Montclair, Brookwood Medical Center, U.A.B., and Odyssey Hospice. She was beloved by many patients and their families for her loving care and devotion to the hospice philosophy.

The family would like to thank our teams at Oasis Hospice and Encompass Home Health, but most especially Annie, Lane, Lorraine (our Angels), and Jackie for their loving care in Dale's final days.

Visitation will be held at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a funeral service following on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. Michael Elrod officiating.

The family requests donations be made to the Twilight Wish Foundation-Alabama Chapter

Pallbearers will be Jacob Moore, Phillip Simmons, Grant Simmons, John Elrod, Alan Jones, Brian Moore, and Steve Martin
