Raymond O. Bennett, 87, of Parkersburg passed away, Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, WV.

He was born December 12, 1934 at Parkersburg, a son of the late David and Hazel Utt Bennett.

Raymond retired from the Department of Defense as a Military Tech with 20 years of service. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 4, 1955 and took basic training in Bainbridge, MD. His service included 48 months sea duty aboard the USS Salem CA 129, USS Albany CA, USS New Jersey BB 62 and USS Des Moines CA; making 3 cruises to Gitmo, Cuba and 3 cruises to the Mediterranean Sea and 4 years in active Navy Reserves. Raymond joined the Army Reserves in 1972 and served until 1975 then reenlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1978. He was Honorably discharged December 15, 1994.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.

He is survived by four children, David Bennett of Belleville, WV, Teresa Bennett of Belle, WV, Freda Hartshorn (Ron) of Satsuma, FL and Sarah Dillon (Tim) of Belleville, WV; grandchildren, Chrystal Glessner, Mathew Dillon, George Casto, Heather Ezell, Misty Bennett, Gregory Gibson, Jonathan Gibson and Autumn Gibson; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Lee Hart of Belpre, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis N. Scott Bennett on February 16, 2007; one sister, Freda Rhodes; three brothers, Kenneth Bennett, Durwood Bennett and Gene Bennett; and great-granddaughter, Bianca Jackson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Wayne Nichols officiating. Interment with full military honors by American Legion Post 15 will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022 at the funeral home.
