Alice Winifred McElvain was a member of the Esther Circle, Montana Federation of Woman's Clubs and Valley County Republican Club and worked on the election board for many years. She died at age 78 Friday in Glasgow Deaconess Hospital.

Born in Waseca, Minn., she was a daughter of Frank and Agnes Jones. In 1923 she married Robert McElvain in Hinsdale. He died Feb. 4, 1981.

Survivors include a son, Robert J. Jr. of Worden, three daughters, Mrs. Marlys Mercer of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Maxine O'Brien of Kalispell and Sharon Robinson of Bellevue, Wash.; three brothers, Harvey Jones and Frank Jones, both of Hinsdale and Thomas Jones of Glendive; seven sisters, Mrs. Frances Williams of Hinsdale, Mrs. Blanche Dederick of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Marjorie Bordwell of Penn Yan, N.Y., Mrs. Rene Lock of Billings, Donna Jones of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Nellie Greer of Fenton, Ill., and Mrs. Ramona Frerking of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hinsdale United Methodist Church will burial in Hillview Cemetery.
