Born on Christmas Eve 1946 in Amarillo, Texas, Julian Clement Simpson was a gift to his parents Clem & Lucille and has remained a gift to us all. Julian's giving and generous nature was evident from an early age. Growing up in Lubbock, TX, the oldest of four children, Julian always put others first, thinking of how to bring kindness, comfort, and humor into the lives of those around him.
He met Sharon, the love of his life, in 1960, at the age of 14 and she has remained the center of his world ever since. Julian graduated from Monterey High School & Texas Tech University with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and he spent many years in the insurance field.
Julian served in many civic capacities from the Chairman of the Housing Authority to president of the Lubbock Tennis Association; he was an ordained deacon at Second Baptist Church, and a community organizer for the Democratic Party.
Julian was a giver, never passing up an opportunity to help those in need. Perhaps his greatest legacy will be the years he spent coaching his three children. He spent countless hours drawing up plays and strategizing ways to win, resulting in trophies, endless competitive stories, and memories that will remain forever with those who knew him best. Julian's life work was his family and his walk with the Lord. He never lost sight of his priorities: faith & family.
Julian met Sharon Armstrong in 1961 and began a family in 1969. They spent many happy years in Lubbock with family & friends, attending Oakwood Baptist, endless sporting functions, and watching their family grow up. In 2005, he and Sharon moved to Dallas, where they rekindled friendships at Wilshire. At Wilshire, Julian was involved in the Compass class, so impactful, that he said that it "redefined Sunday school for him". He was actively leading discussions about the Faith in Science for Wilshire.
Julian's life was marked with humility, optimism, and humor. He always had a kind thing to say, a helpful insight, and a positive example. He will be greatly missed. Julian was preceded in death by his father Clem.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille; his wife Sharon, his children April, Amber, & Jerod and their families; his siblings Shelley, Brent, & Lisa and their families, and his dog, Bella.
